Maryland rolls out the red carpet for top local flip target

Maryland had a long list of portal targets on campus through the weekend, but they also had a host of top high school targets on campus with Flowers (MD) three-star cornerback Braydon Lee headlining the list.

The 5-foot-11.5, 160-pound cornerback is plenty familiar with the Terps’ program having been to College Park for four of the six home games this season, making this weekend more about showing Lee’s family about why the Terps fit.

“I’d definitely say I gained more clarity and a better perspective. I was able to see a little bit more in-depth of what they see in me and how they’ll use me. Just all of that, pretty much,” Lee told IBG. “The visit really wasn’t too much for me because of the amount of times I’ve been there. It was really for my mom, just to show my mom what I felt and why I wanted to open my recruiting back up to the University of Maryland in the first place.”

So, what did mom think?

“She definitely had a good time. She definitely learned some things, got better insight as well. Overall it was a really good visit,” Braydon Lee added.

“We had a lot of private talks with a lot of the different coaches. Like with coach Locks, my meeting with him got very in-depth in where he sees me with his program and some of the things he’ll do for me. My mom was very happy about that. She wants me to go to a program where she’s confident the head coach will take care of me. I feel like coach Locks, coach [Henry] Baker, coach Zac [Spavital] all did a good job with assuring my mother that I’ll be taken care of and I’ll get the job done at Maryland like I can anywhere in the country.”

Wide receiver Rob Smith served as Lee’s host but the weekend also gave him a chance to spend ample time with the rest of the players–something he’s been able to do on his repeated visits throughout the season.

“I’ve been getting accustomed with the coaches and culture and the team for about a month and a half, two months now. I’ve met a lot of new players on the team, I’ve built really good bonds with multiple players. I’ve also known some players who’ve been on the team for three, four years now so if I ever had any questions, I went to them and they always kept it real with me. That’s something I really appreciate.”

South Carolina will make their final effort on Tuesday with Maryland expected later in the week in its final attempt to close. Lee admitted no concrete decision would be made immediately following his official visit, but the Terps have made this a battle down the stretch.

“I would definitely say it’ll take more consideration. It won’t be something that happens immediately after the visit, but it definitely gave me some things to think about. I’m going to use really this next week and a half to really break it down and see what I want to do. What I will say is Maryland has a really good shot.”

Braydon Lee is rated a three-star prospect by On3 and an 88 overall, ranked as the 17th-best prospect in Maryland.
