Maryland men’s basketball to take Italian summer training tour

Maryland men’s basketball’s international tour for this summer has officially been announced.

Maryland will head to Italy for a ten-day trip beginning July 31 in a trip that takes the Terps to Rome, Florence, Venice and Lake Como and features three exhibition games. This summer’s trip marks the first international trip for the program since Maryland visited Italy back in 2018.

Via release:

“These trips provide a tremendous opportunity for our student-athletes,” said head coach Kevin Willard. “To be able to see firsthand some of the most historical landmarks in the world and areas steeped in such history is a wonderful experience for them. From a basketball perspective, these trips allow us to play against other competition which will help us as we prepare for the upcoming season.”

During the trip, Maryland will tour several historic sites such as the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome; St. Mark’s Square and Grand Canal gondola rides in Venice; and boat tours of Lake Como and Lake Maggiore along with visiting the islands of Bellagio and Borromeo in Lake Como.

The news comes one day after its conference opponents for the 2023-24 season were announced. Maryland will host Michigan, Nebraska and Purdue while traveling to Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin this upcoming season. Maryland will also have a home-and-away with Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Rutgers.
