Maryland jumps into the mix for local lineman after visit

2025 offensive lineman Khalil Wilkins transferred from St. Frances (MD) to Milford Mill (MD) where the 6-foot-6 lineman lined up as the starting right tackle. Now down to 298 pounds, Wilkins and his teammates are back in the weight room with the projected three-star tackle aiming to trim down to 285 pounds ahead of his senior season.

Wilkins has watched his recruitment grow as more schools make their way to Milford Mill during the evaluation period. Akron became the latest school to offer this week while Boston College and West Virginia recently jumped into the mix with offers.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind experience to see all this type of love from all these different schools,” Wikins told IBG.

Colorado was the first Power Five offer and Virginia Tech became the next Power Five offer, but Wilkins has long been on Maryland’s radar having been to campus through his high school career. Two days after he visited campus for the Michigan State game, the local lineman added his first Big Ten offer after assistant Brian Braswell trekked through his school.

“He showed up to my school. When I went up there this weekend I didn’t get a chance to talk with him and we just got lost up in the crowd. But he took time out of his day to come to my school and talk to me,” he added. Wilkins previously made his way to College Park for the Penn State game back in November, but during his most recent visit, the local lineman was able to connect with new assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim the most.

“It’s always a great atmosphere when I’m at Maryland,” he added. “I knew him when he was at St. Frances and when I was at Boston College. I was too young to pick up the offer, but he’s always been a great coach from when I first met him. He said he didn’t think I was developed enough before and now I’ve truly earned that offer.”

Maryland, Syracuse and West Virginia have been the three schools staying most consistent contact as of late as Wilkins enjoys his growing list of suitors, but the Terps’ pitch is one he’s fond of in the early stages with a familiar face already in the program.

“It’s a local school and I really like that it’s a local school because that my means my family can come to my games. One of my old teammates just signed there, Logan Bennett. That’s my guy.”

Khalil Wilkins is planning spring visits to UConn, Pitt and Virginia Tech.

He is not yet rated by On3 but is rated an 86 overall by IBG.
