Maryland football stays hot as Spalding LB Keyshawn Flowers announces commitment

Maryland football keeps its hot streak on the trail going as Archbishop Spalding (MD) three-star linebacker Keyshawn Flowers has announced his commitment to Maryland, just days after officially visiting College Park.

Flowers, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, committed to Maryland over Miami (FL) and Notre Dame as the Terps add their third inside linebacker pledge this cycle alongside Keyari James and Justin Okoronkwo.

Maryland has long been involved with Flowers since solidifying himself as a Power Five prospect as a junior. The lean, rangy linebacker helped lead a stingy Cavaliers defense to an 11-1 season after posting 81 tackles including 39 solo, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson led the way after extending an offer back on February 1 while USC, NC State, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan State and Tennessee were among the schools to jump into the picture through the spring.

“He’s telling me a lot about why Maryland when we talk on the phone,” Flowers said about lead recruiter Lance Thompson. “He’s just saying how I’d be in the program, being so close it’d be a good fit for me. They’ve been telling me what they like about me, my size, my speed and how I work inside.”

Keyshawn Flowers becomes the third inside linebacker commit for Maryland this cycle, joining Justin Okoronkwo and Keyari James.

Maryland stayed in Flowers’ top group throughout his recruitment and outlasted a strong push from the ‘Canes during his official visit during the weekend of June 9 before Notre Dame hosted the three-star and his family the weekend of June 23. Maryland sealed the deal with Flowers during his final visit before giving his verbal early this week.

“It’s close to home, to my family. I like the Big Ten, it’s a competitive conference. I think they play good football and they are building something,” Flowers said about the Terps heading into his official visits.

Flowers also becomes the latest Archbishop Spalding product to join the program with both linebacker Kellan Wyatt and safety Lavain Scruggs entering their second year with Maryland.

Flowers also gives Maryland its third commitment this week and ninth commitment this month, joining receiver Josiah McLaurin, cornerback Larry Tarver, linebacker Keyari James, linemen Anthony Robsock, Michael McMonigle, Donovan Thompson, Michael Hershey and Terez Davis.

Keyshawn Flowers is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the 13th-best prospect in Maryland.
