Three schools standing out to Spalding LB Keyshawn Flowers

Three schools have separated themselves for Spalding (MD) three-star linebacker Keyshawn Flowers and next month, he’ll check out each of his top contenders.

Keyshawn Flowers, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker, will begin his visits with an official to Miami the weekend of June 9. Flowers will then officially visit Notre Dame beginning June 16 followed by Maryland beginning June 23. Flowers isn’t opposed to a potential fourth and fifth official down the line, but for now, the local linebacker is comfortable with his top contenders.

“I’m still keeping it open but I think that will probably be it. It’s cool to be able to take more, the opportunity to see more schools. That’s the most important thing and it creates opportunity, but I don’t know. I think this will be it for now,” Flowers told IBG.

The ‘Canes have been in hot pursuit and have pitched to Flowers that he’s the top inside linebacker on their board. “Miami has a plan for me. I like the support they’re giving me. It’s definitely nice down there. The coaches show a lot of love. Miami definitely is cool. I went down there unofficially for two days [in the spring].” Flowers will look to enjoy Coral Gables one more time as inside linebacker coach Derek Nicholson is in hot pursuit. “I think they answered a lot of my questions. Really on my official, I’m going to go down there and enjoy myself, bring the family. It’s going to be a fun trip.”

The Irish will be next as their recently increased efforts have made them a contender.

“Coach [Al] Golden and coach [Marcus] Freeman. They’ve been showing a lot of love as of recently too. They haven’t really talked to me as much as Miami has but they’ve been showing me a lot of love. They’ve picked it up. They were pressuring me about taking an official and it was something to think about, but I finally pulled the trigger on it.”

Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson made Spalding a stop on Monday and with defensive coordinator Brian Williams leading the way, Flowers made it to a pair of spring practices in College Park. “I think they have a plan for me too. It’s close to home, to my family. I like the Big Ten, it’s a competitive conference. I think they play good football and they are building something.”

Flowers will take time before making his decision likely in August.

“I’ll probably do it some time right before the season.”

Keyshawn Flowers is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the 13th-best prospect in Maryland.
