Maryland has landed a portal defensive line to bolster the trenches.
Tre’Darius Colbert will transfer to Maryland for the 2023 season, he announced on Tuesday morning.
The 6-foot-2, 346-pound lineman out of Angelo State entered the transfer portal back on January 26 and has two seasons of eligibility remaining. After playing in eleven games last season, Colbert finished with 34 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Colbert joins a defensive line room limited by depth so far this spring, but will be anchored by Tommy Akingbesote, Jordan Phillips and Taizse Johnson.
Colbert gives Maryland added depth at nose tackle as defensive line coach Brian Williams is tasked with replacing all three starters from the 2022 season.
Outside linebacker coach James Thomas, who previously coached at Angelo State before joining Maryland, led the way with defensive coordinator Brian Williams teaming up to land the Temple, Texas native.
Maryland now has six available scholarships available for the 2023 season.
