Maryland adds in-state wide receiver to 2024 class

Maryland has landed their fifth commitment in the 2024 class.

Baltimore City (MD) three-star wide receiver Jahmari Powell-Wonson has announced his commitment to Maryland, shortly after giving his verbal to the staff. Wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer and inside linebacker Lance Thompson stopped through his school earlier this week, finalizing his official visit for the weekend of June 23

Powell-Wonson was planning to announce his commitment on Monday, but after connecting with head coach Mike Locksley this afternoon, the Baltimore product jumped aboard.

Maryland made the top seven for the Baltimore product last month and the presence of Baltimore native Tyrese Chambers in the program was another bonus for Maryland.

”Maryland has been recruiting me for quite a while now. I have a strong relationship with every position coach on the offensive side, so it’s a blessing that I received this offer. I attended an exposure camp last summer and got invited to a private session. We kept in contact since then. Back in early January, they came by my school and ever since then we’ve just been keeping in contact, getting a stronger bond,” Powell-Wonsontold IBG earlier this spring.

Powell-Wonson becomes the first true wide receiver in Maryland’s class, while Florida athlete Terek McCant slides into the slot.
