Local TE looking to visit Maryland after picking up verbal offer

2025 Georgetown Prep TE Dominic DeSarno has drawn Power Five interest since the end of his junior season, but Maryland became the first Power Five offer for the local 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete last week and it’s a school that he’s working on including in his spring visit plans.

“It came out of the blue. Coach [James Thomas] texted me, I was really surprised,” DeSarno added.

DeSarno has plans to visit Holy Cross on March 19, Harvard on March 20 then Brown on March 21 as the Terps will likely host the two-sport athlete for an unofficial visit this spring.

“I live near the area so I’m about 20, 25 minutes away so I grew up going to football, basketball and lacrosse games. It’s a lot of fun. I really like College Park and I think I’m coming in the spring for a practice to see a little bit more,” DeSarno told IBG. “[James Thomas] said he were going to connect again and he was going to get me up there so super excited for that.”

Penn, Princeton, West Virginia and Cornell have all shown interest thus far while Virginia and Virginia Tech previously hosted DeSarno for unofficial visits as the Hokies are plenty familiar to him given his parents are VT alums. “I went to Virginia Tech, UVA. I’m going back to Tech in a couple of weeks. It’s been going well. I got to see some really amazing schools that are all really good programs, nice campus, great academics. I thought it was really cool. Big football school, that’s what they’ve got at Blacksburg,” DeSarno told IBG about the Hokies. “UVA is really nice too, that was my first time being there.”

Between scheduling visits and weightlifting, DeSarno is in the midst of lacrosse season as Georgetown Prep looks to remain among the area’s top teams despite its early 2-1 record. “We actually had our first game [last week], we won in overtime so that’s real exciting. We’ve been going for about two weeks now so it’s been a lot of fun.”

While the local two-sport athlete has enjoyed a shortened offseason during his junior year, DeSarno’s preference is on the gridiron at the next level.

“I think football is what I want to really do. I had some opportunities to play lacrosse in college, D1 offers but I think my love for football is greater than my love for lacrosse. I’m really happy to have any opportunity I get for either football or lacrosse.”

DeSarno is not yet rated by On3.
