Local guard looking to visit local schools heading into summer

Gonzaga (DC) finished the season 26-11 overall as 2025 point guard Nyk Lewis led the way as the Eagles’ go-to scorer. Lewis’ national profiles grew as the 6-foot-2 point guard showcased just how efficient he is around the rim, but now he shifts his attention to AAU where he’ll look to lead Team Takeover into the summer.

“I feel like sophomore from a team standpoint, we could’ve finished a little bit better because the last part of the season we got a little bit dull but I think my performance was good and I brought it every game,” Lewis told IBG. “I want to work on my defense, talking and pulling up on my jump shots instead of going all the way in.”

In the midst of AAU picking up, Lewis is also looking to schedule more visits with Kansas State, LSU, Seton Hall and Virginia Tech among the schools already to offer the local four-star, but Lewis will begin with the two local schools.

“I just took one to Georgetown but the only one I know I’m going to is Maryland. I don’t have a specific date but probably somewhere around June 10, somewhere around that.”

Head coach Ed Cooley has been aggressive on the recruiting trail, whether high school or portal, and telling Lewis during last week’s visit that the Gonzaga star is their number one point guard in the 2025 class has left an impression.

“I like the campus, I like the feel. They really like me a lot, they’re really recruiting him hard. They’ve told me, we’ve watched film and he was telling me how I’d be a great fit at Georgetown. They really need a point guard in the 2025 class and they want me to be their guy.”

Lewis admitted he has not yet heard the same sentiment about him being a priority for Maryland and head coach Kevin Willard just yet, but after jumping into the mix last summer following a team camp, lead recruiter David Cox and new assistant Mike Jones have made the Terps a familiar face.

“Things have been going well. They can’t reach out to me directly yet but when we talk, things have been good. Definitely still feel the love.” Maryland adding a former WCAC coach also didn’t go unnoticed by the current WCAC standout. “It’s nice having a familiar face there.”

After visiting for a game last season, what does Lewis want to see on his return trip to College Park?

“I just want to see their practice, how they bring in their new guys, then a workout. Maybe some on-campus stuff outside of basketball.”

Lewis is also looking to schedule visits to LSU, Seton Hall and Virginia this summer.

Lewis is rated a four-star prospect and a 96 overall by On3, sitting as the 32nd-best player in the nation.
