Local ’26 DB Hakim Satterwhite high on early relationships with Maryland staff

2026 St. John’s (DC) defensive back Hakim Satterwhite was back in College Park on Thursday for his first spring practice of the year with 2024 signees Shamar McIntosh and Judah Jenkins in attendance, and Thursday gave the early 2026 target a closer look at his position group.

“It was good just seeing the players. I like how the DBs attacked the day today. I like Aazaar’s coaching, that stood out the most. He really knows how to coach corners,” Satterwhite told IBG. While Abdul-Rahim is moving full steam ahead to land his teammate, 2025 four-star Tariq Hayer, Satterwhite has built a comfortable early relationship with the Terps’ new co-defensive coordinator.

“I see him all the time. He’s a really good guy. He’s always checking in on me making sure I’m good, showing face. He’s always a familiar face to talk with. It’s just a relaxed environment. He really just wants to make sure everybody is straight and looks out for his kids.”

Satterwhite was able to connect with head coach Mike Locksley on the visit with the Terps looking to keep the next great St. John’s defensive back home.

“That’s another guy I really like. He comes to the school and talks with me, but that was the first time really talking to him one-on-one up on campus. He was telling me about the importance of staying home, what it means to build your brand wherever you go to college. It’s best to stay home to do it. I see he has a good future for the program and I like what he’s building.”

Satterwhite is looking to take more visits through spring ball with plans to check out Rutgers, Syracuse and Penn State, but so far nothing set in stone. “I’m just playing everything by ear, taking it day by day.”

Satterwhite, who also plays basketball for the Cadets, also suited up as a receiver but projects as a corner at the next level after becoming an integral piece in St. John’s secondary.

Hakim Satterwhite is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, checking in as the top-rated prospect in D.C.
