Four-star safety Faheem Delane includes Maryland in top five

Maryland missed out on the initial top group for Good Counsel (MD) four-star Faheem Delane, but with his official visit schedule now set, the Terps made the updated top five for the local blue-chip safety.

Delane, a 6-foot-1.5, 200-pound safety, told On3 his updated top group is Maryland, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Oregon and LSU with four official visits lined up.

Maryland will look to pull off the upset over Ohio State, but they’ll get the first crack at the local blue-chip safety out of Olney with an official visit set to College Park the weekend of May 31. Outside linebacker coach James Thomas and co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim lead the way for the in-state target, who last visited campus on March 28, as head coach Mike Locksley was among six assistants to trek through Good Counsel back in January.

After his official visit to Maryland, Delane will head to Ohio State (June 8), Oregon (June 14) and LSU (June 21) before he looks to make his commitment in July.

The four-star safety broke down his finalists:

Maryland: “Hometown team. Great DB coach. Great culture, getting safeties drafted so definitely a school and a contender for me.”

Virginia Tech: “My brother [Mansoor] plays football there, plays corner there so family ties. They’re on the up and up. New head coach, coach [Brent] Pry. Just a great coach, great young coaches.”

Oregon: “Coach Dan Lanning, I would say he’s a young Nick Saban in this new day and age. Just a great young coach who’s going to do everything to get that national championship.”

Ohio State: “I would say just NFL. They got so much talent there every day competing against NFL talent, how they study the game. It’s just such NFL-like so you get very prepared.”

LSU: “Great DB culture. Jamal Adams, Pat [Peterson], Tyrann Mathieu so you’re getting dogs [if] you’re going to Louisiana. It’s just a dog eat dog mentality over there. I love that about them.”

After getting his feet wet as a freshman, Delane became an integral piece in the Falcons’ defense his sophomore season before ascending into stardom heading into his junior season. Whether on defense or special teams, Delane was hard to miss on the field after posting 69 tackles, 18 pass breakups including the game-sealing breakup to lead the Falcons to the WCAC title.

Faheem Delane is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, sitting as the 118th-best prospect in the country. Delane is also the second-best prospect in Maryland behind DL Trent Wilson.
