Newly offered athlete sets official visit to Maryland

Maryland has been active in the Carolinas this month as wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer continued to make the rounds into Friday. After showing interest through the spring, Maryland was in to see Clinton (NC) wide receiver Josiah McLaurin on Friday before becoming the latest Power Five school to jump into the mix.

“He’s a great person to be around,” McLaurin told IBG. “I can already tell. I get that vibe from him. We were talking about NIL and what positions he wanted me to play. We talked about TBIA Foundation a little bit.”

With one wide receiver already in the fold with Jahmari Powell-Wonson leading the way as the first in-state commitment, Maryland joins Pitt and Virginia Tech as Power Five programs to offer the 6-foot, 180-pound wideout. Now, Maryland will be the first Power Five school to host him for an official visit.

“I’m going up there the 16th through 18th [for an official visit],” McLaurin told IBG, marking his first visit to Maryland. “I want to see the campus. I do have a couple questions that I know I want to ask them.”

McLaurin is also scheduled to visit East Carolina beginning June 8 and Pittsburgh beginning June 22.

As a junior, McLaurin posted 903 rushing yards along with 490 receiving yards for 22 combined touchdowns, leading Clinton in both categories.

McLaurin is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 31st-best prospect in North Carolina.
