Former Maryland WR Stefon Diggs on the move to Houston

After four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, former Maryland star Stefon Diggs is headed to Houston.

The Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills agreed to a deal that sends Diggs, a 2025 fifth-round and sixth-round pick in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. The move not only creates over $30 million in dead money but comes less than 24 hours after Diggs responded to a tweet that an elite receiver isn’t essential to Josh Allen’s success.

That theory will now be tested as Diggs, who enters 2024 just five yards away from 10,000 career receiving yards, eclipsed 1,100 receiving yards in each of his last four seasons with the Bills and six seasons dating back to his last two seasons with the Vikings. Diggs missed just two regular season games with the Bills and ended his tenure in Buffalo with 445 catches, 5,372 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns in four seasons. After Minnesota traded Diggs to Buffalo back in 2020, he and Josh Allen emerged as one of the league’s top QB-WR duos, but turmoil between the two stars was routinely rumored between the two despite Diggs shutting down those claims.

“For me, I feel like the common misconception was that I wanted to leave but it was like I never said that. I’m like damn, I thought we all listened to Drake at one point. It’s social media. Use it how you want but at one point some people dive too deep into things or take it however they want to take it. I’ll also say I’m not responsible for how people react to things. I’m moreso responsible for how I carry [myself] and I’m just happy to have my quarterback.”

Now, Diggs will look to develop a new rapport with a new teams as he joins quarterback CJ Stroud in Houston. After two top-five picks in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans are coming off arguably the most impressive turnaround in the NFL after finishing the regular season 10-7 before losing in the divisional round of the playoffs.
