Jahmir Young named to Reese’s NABC Division I All-Star Game

Jahmir Young will get to play one more game in a Maryland uniform after he was named to the Reese’s NABC Division I All-Star game set for Friday, April 5 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Tipoff is set to begin at 5:30 PM EST following the Final Four open practices.

Young is one of three guards from the Big Ten invited to the all star game alongside Keisei Tominaga (Nebraska) and Jamison Battle (Ohio State) and will suit up for the East Team, led by Oakland head coach Greg Kampe.

The latest postseason honor adds to a long list of hardware for the former two-year Maryland guard, who was named to the NABC All-District 7 First Team, All-Big Ten First Team by the media and Associated Press All-Big Ten Second Team. Young was also selected as Maryland’s Sportsmanship Award honoree.

After transferring in from Charlotte, Young averaged 20.4 points per game as a super senior, good for third-most in the Big Ten, 29th nationally and tied for the 11th-most in a single-season in program history. His two-year average of 18 points per game is fifth-most among all Terps over their careers.

His 2,626 career points were the second-most among all active NCAA players. He posted a career-best 652 points this year which ranks 12th all-time for a single-season at Maryland. He is just the fifth player in Maryland history to reach 1,000 points in two seasons and the third fastest to do so needing just 57 games.

After having posted 1,421 points at Charlotte, Young became just the sixth player since 2006 to score 1,000 points at two different schools. He also tied Eric Hayes for the program record for free throw percentage (.870) after converting 341-of-392 attempts. His 198 made free throws this year rank fifth all-time for a single-season, while his .900 free throw percentage was third. He also finished his career ranked eighth all-time for minutes average at 33.2 per game.

Young posted eighteen 20-point games this year along with three 30-point efforts. His career-high 37 points in the win at UCLA and his 36 points at Northwestern are the top two individual regular-season scoring performances in the league this year.

“Just thankful for the year. Just taking that last walk. Just thanking all my teammates and thanking Coach for embracing me these last two years,” Young said after the season-ending loss vs. Wisconsin.
