Florida lineman enjoys familiarity, fit during first visit to Maryland

Jones (FL) composite four-star defensive lineman D’antre Robinson was able to take advantage of his spring break to visit Maryland for the first time.

Maryland jumped into the mix for the 6-foot-1, 295-pound lineman for the first time back in the fall and after signing his teammate, Dylan Wade, in the 2023 cycle, Robinson had some familiarity with the Terps. Outside linebacker coach James Thomas has led the way for the Florida lineman as Robinson enjoys a strong connection.

“It was pretty cool being around the good vibes,” Robinson told IBG. “I’ve known him for a while now. It was great seeing him in person but just getting to know him and hearing what Dylan [Wade] says, I knew I’d be able to get along with him.” Robinson also got a chance to sit down with defensive coordinator Brian Williams to delve into the defensive scheme before touring campus.

“They said I can play anywhere along the line but they need dogs like me to build the [defensive] line up. They really said they really need me and I’d have a chance to start for them. They showed me around the school, I talked to a few players. I know my teammate is committed and he’s going up there.”

Robinson also spent time with new transfer lineman Jordan Phillips, who has become a familiar face for the Florida targets who have visited through March. “He told me that was the place to be. How everyone on the team got a good bond, even with the coaching staff.”

Did the unofficial set the stage for a second visit in the future?

“I’m thinking about taking an official there.”

Robinson has one official visit set thus far where he’ll check out Texas on June 16, while in-state Florida is also under consideration for an official visit. Until then, he has two out-of-state schools he wants to check out with spring practices in full swing.

“I might be going back to Florida. I want to go to USC and Pitt.”

Robinson is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall, sitting as the 55th-best prospect in Florida.
