Young Terps: basketball opener, FB + BB recruiting updates, turnaround in Lincoln?

Welcome back for the latest episode of Young Terps as we dive into all the latest news surrounding a busy week for Maryland athletics for both revenue sports and on the recruiting trail.

Maryland men’s basketball kicked off the 2023-24 season against Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday night as they cruised to a 68-53 win as DeShawn Harris-Smith and Julian Reese led the way. Harris-Smith made his presence felt early, especially on the defensive end, while Julian Reese was able to find consistent success around the rim though struggled from the free throw line. Maryland will now shift its attention to the Asheville Tournament this weekend, first taking on Davidson on Friday night. What were the concerns and highlights in Tuesday’s win, and what can Maryland prove this weekend?

We also hit the recruiting trail with five-star Derik Queen expected to be in the final days of his recruitment as Maryland fans anxiously await his decision, looking to add a longtime priority to its 2024 class. So, what to make with everything with the early signing period now officially open? Plus, Maryland football suffered a second decommitment in the trenches this cycle, but there could be good news coming with another target on the cusp of a decision.

We close out the show hitting on Maryland football heading to Lincoln to take on Nebraska in a game the Terps remain the betting favorite for. Nebraska enters Saturday with one of the top run offenses and defenses in the country, and after the Terps struggled to run the ball against Penn State, what can we expect this weekend? We give our predictions, what it’ll take for the Terps to pull out the win and share our betting takes.
