Wide Receiver Marcus Fleming Away From Maryland Football

Maryland welcomes a deep wide receiver room heading into the 2022 season but the unit is currently without one underclassman who saw time last fall. Maryland wide receiver Marcus Fleming is currently away from the team and not participating in training camp activities, per a team spokesman. “We will provide an update to Marcus’ status when appropriate,” the team spokesman told Inside the Black and Gold.

This comes after news emerged over the weekend that Fleming is facing first and second-degree assault charges from a June 3 incident. He was charged five days after the incident and his court hearing is set to begin this Thursday, August 25. Fleming’s absence from Saturday’s scrimmage was reported on Saturday by Inside the Black and Gold.

The 5-foot-10 wideout started three games in eight appearances for Maryland last season and finished with 197 yards and one touchdown on 18 catches. Fleming missed the final two games of the 2021 season after undergoing season-ending surgery following the Michigan State game. During his time with Nebraska, Fleming also recorded 75 receiving yards on five catches in four games played before leaving the program in late November of 2020.

Marcus Fleming, a former four-star prospect out of Miami Northwestern (FL), signed with Nebraska over Maryland back in 2020, but announced his transfer to Maryland just one month after leaving the Huskers. Current defensive coordinator Brian Williams battled the Huskers down the stretch after Fleming backed off of his original verbal commitment to Miami.
