Where former Maryland stars are projected to land in 2024 NFL Draft

The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft begins on Thursday night as several former Maryland stars look to hear their names called through Saturday.

Beau Brade will look to become the fifth defensive back drafted out of Maryland since 2020, while DJ Glaze and Gottlieb Ayedze have a chance to become the third and fourth offensive linemen drafted over the last two years. Jeshaun Jones, Tarheeb Still and Ja’Quan Sheppard are among the former Maryland stars looking to hear their names called with Still and Sheppard bouncing around as day three candidates, but former Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa found himself included in one mock draft.

Sporting News projected Taulia Tagovailoa to land with the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round where he would join Jordan Love and Sean Clifford. Teaming up with his older brother, Tua, in Miami would be the dream for Taulia as he looks to become the first Maryland quarterback to be drafted since Scott Zolak did so back in 1991.

“My advice to brother is, dude, the right team is going to pick you,” Tua told Fox News when asked about advice for Taulia. “You just be yourself. If you know this team doesn’t see fit, like, that’s not the right team for you. The right team will find you. The right team will pick you and you will go to the team that best fits your personality, your play style and they wouldn’t pick you if that didn’t intertwine with one another because they already know you’re a good football player.”

After attempting to suit up for a sixth season before the NCAA denied his waiver, Taulia turned to the first steps toward his pro career before flashing at the East-West Shrine Bowl, finishing 9-of-14 for 142 yards and one rushing touchdown. Taulia was also among the participants at Maryland’s pro day last month with nearly 60 scouts and all 32 NFL teams in attendance.

“He has experience, was very productive in college, is very athletic and can extend plays,” one NFL scout told ESPN earlier this month. “He escapes the pocket too soon, though, and his accuracy on film is not good.”
