What I’m Hearing: Closing Time for Maryland’s Top Targets

Maryland has nine days remaining to seal the deal on its top two targets.

The buzz swirled around five-star athlete Nyck Harbor on Monday morning after he posted an Instagram story of him in Colorado. Roughly an hour later, the visit was debunked after a source told IBG that Harbor was in fact trolling and back in DC for school. It’s that time of year where things get weird, but in this case, the same schools remain. Oregon and Michigan are expected to go in home with Harbor’s family on Tuesday while head coach Mike Locksley and running backs coach Elijah Brooks will go in-home on Wednesday. I haven’t confirmed when the Gamecocks will go in-home just yet, but the plan is for no in-home visits on Thursday ahead of his official visit to Oregon. Maryland remains in a good spot heading into crunch time. Maryland will need to address Dan Enos’ departure, but I’m told there isn’t any concern from Harbor’s camp regarding Maryland’s offensive identity despite the shakeup. I am hearing, however, that Harbor’s marketing agency has made his recruitment extremely difficult down the stretch as they maximize every possible NIL dollar.

As for the other remaining targets, it’s also crunch time for Lake Brantley (FL) four-star duo Mike and Andrew Harris. Maryland will go in-home with them on Tuesday as they work to seal the deal. Stop me if you’ve heard this before—this still isn’t a done deal. But there is confidence that Maryland will land the duo. Mom still rocks with Maryland and Mike Harris is on board with Andrew not far behind. I don’t expect either to visit Maryland prior to their Feb. 1 decision, but UCF may be able to pry them onto campus next weekend. Still, I’m hearing that despite the Knights’ increased focus down the stretch that it’s going to take a lot for UCF to get them back in the fold. The relationships are stronger with Maryland than UCF as things stand. I’m keeping them as ‘warm’ but inching towards ‘warmer’ as I keep tabs on developments through the week.
