Virginia three-star defensive back has strong connection with Maryland early

Trinity Episcopal (VA) three-star defensive back Terrance Edwards wrapped up his first and final scrimmage of preseason as the 6-foot-1, 180-pounds gears up for the season opener next month.

Before he takes the field for his first game, Edwards announced a top twelve with Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Miami (FL), Penn State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia most involved early.

“My top twelve was something me and my dad talking about, just with the top schools showing interest,” Edwards told IBG. “Of course my recruitment is still open to new schools coming along but those are the schools really catching my eye right now. Things can change, but if I had to commit tomorrow, these are the schools I’d choose between.”

With Edwards taking the first step in his recruitment, the Virginia three-star was able to see nearly all of his top schools dating back to the beginning of his sophomore season.

Edwards, meanwhile, was back in College Park earlier this summer. “I was there around June, we were there for a 7-on-7. The last time before that was last year, but when I was there for the summer I got like a little facility tour. I talked to coach [Gunter] Brewer, coach [Latrell] Scott, a bunch of the guys in the recruiting department.”

Wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer previously led recruiting efforts in Richmond as the two hit it off in person. “He always has energy. That’s what you want in a college.”

Area recruiter Latrell Scott, though, is the one with depth to the relationship early. “He came from ECU. Him and my dad have a really good connection. It’s just good energy. I trust him because him and my pops have a real good relationship. Plus my dad is a Que Dog, Maryland has great connections with Que Dog’s.”

Edwards is planning to check out more of his top schools with Maryland’s Friday night game catching the eye of another prospect whose team primarily plays on Saturdays.

“I’m trying to get to a Maryland game. I was talking to my dad and coach about Virginia. I know I want to get to Clemson-Florida State, then I have to get to South Carolina at Tennessee. I think I have one with Oklahoma too.”

Edwards is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the sixth-best player in Virginia.
