Virginia three-star cornerback Asaad Brown took his first-ever visit to Maryland on Tuesday as the 6-foot, 175-pound target gave himself his first look at the program. Brown, who transferred from Oscar Smith (VA) to St. Michael’s (VA), made the trip in with his family before he got one-on-one time with the defensive coaches.
“It went good. Talked to the head coach, talked to the [defensive backs] coach [Henry] Baker so that was good then I did the photoshoot, tour, all that,” Brown told IBG. Area recruiter Gunter Brewer first led the charge for the three-star target and after a longtime pursuit by the staff, Brown’s interest sparked the midweek visit. “Just the recruiting process. I just want to go up there and see it. Everybody has been talking about them so I just wanted to see how it was.”
Maryland had hurdles to climb in Brown’s recruitment dating back to last summer but they’ve turned the tides in recent weeks. “I’m not going to lie, they haven’t really like kept in contact but they’re starting now. It’s not too late for me now so I’m listening to them.” Brown wrapped up the visit with a meeting with head coach Mike Locksley.
“He was telling me how they run their program, what Maryland is all about. It was a short talk, mainly just getting to know each other, honestly, but I definitely could come back in the spring, watch a practice and see how it is.”
Next up for Brown are trips to NC State, Notre Dame, LSU, Tulane and Florida State this spring.
Brown is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 16th-best prospect in Virginia and 76th-best cornerback in the country.
