Maryland has been working on former Florida cornerback Jordan Young since he entered the transfer portal back back on December 23 with cornerbacks coach Henry Baker and recruiting analyst Gary Wortham Jr. leading the charge. Maryland was able to step into the mix early in his recruitment due to the fit, available playing time and the school’s presence in a large media market. The staff has been working on getting him into campus for an official over the last two weeks with the interest there, but it wasn’t until late this week when Maryland was able to finalize a date.
Young will now officially visit Maryland next weekend, January 13, as the staff looks to fill the second vacancy in the cornerback room. Former Cincinnati cornerback Ja’Quan Sheppard has already signed with the program while the Terps will return cornerback Tarheeb Still in 2023, but the need for another proven cornerback would finalize what could be Maryland’s strongest secondary in years.
With Young the longtime number one remaining target in the secondary, the staff will then get a chance at a nickel cornerback that GA Brett Kulka initiated contact with. Former ETSU nickel corner Marquez Henry shifted his official visit schedule around and will head to campus for a midweek visit beginning January 17 should Maryland miss on Young. Henry originally planned to officially visit Maryland beginning January 5 then January 13, but he’ll officially visit Austin Peay next weekend with the Terps set up for the last visit.
Young is wrapping up day two of his official visit to Missouri where the Tigers are considered the top competition. Former teammate and Missouri linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper hosted Young on his official visit, but Baker’s consistency has given Maryland renewed hope in his recruitment.
After filling out the safety room, Maryland has one spot remaining in the cornerback room for the 2023 season.
