Transfer OL Corey Bullock Breaks Down Transfer Decision

Former NC Central offensive lineman Corey Bullock knew that Maryland was a school he was interested in when he entered the portal last month with a pressing need for the Terps’ staff to replace three starters in 2023. The opportunity for the Gwynn Park (MD) graduate to close out his college career back at home at the Power Five level was an opportunity that made the hometown Terps an immediate contender. “During this recruitment process, I didn’t respond to many coaches because I knew what I wanted,” Bullock told IBG. Still, Bullock went back and forth this past week about whether he’d follow through on giving the Terrapin staff a chance to recruit him.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman took an official visit to Cincinnati the weekend of January 6 where he gave his commitment to the new Bearcat staff shortly after, but it took a battle with Maryland head coach Mike Locksley in the days after to make Bullock’s subsequent visit to College Park a reality. On the same day Bullock was slated to enroll at Cincinnati, he ultimately opted to hold off and follow through with the Maryland visit.

After arriving in College Park on Friday afternoon, Bullock admitted he knew he’d flip to Maryland by the end of the night. “Just like talking to the coaches face-to-face. Just them being real, honestly,” Bullock told IBG. After taking in the visit with freshman tackle Andre Roye as his host, Bullock told Maryland’s staff on Sunday morning that he’s committed for the 2023 season. “Just my story coming from an HBCU, it feels good. Playing in front of my family. It’s going to be an amazing time this final year. Having everyone come to the game and support me, it’s going to be huge for me.”

Running backs coach Elijah Brooks led the way for Bullock but the visit gave offensive line coach Brian Braswell a chance to make his pitch. “He’s an honest dude. He’s going to shoot you straight and tell you how it is up front. He just talked about how he’s done a good job getting the players he’s had and getting them ready for the NFL.” Bullock said that NIL wasn’t a focal point of the visit and wasn’t a focus for him down the stretch, but rather development in preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft. “Just relationships and getting to the point. What can I do to help the team, how can they help me.”

Bullock will enroll at Maryland ahead of the spring semester, though an exact date has yet to be finalized. Nonetheless, he joins the program as a guard where he’ll have a chance to replace Spencer Anderson as the right guard in 2023.

Bullock joins the program with one season of eligibility remaining after playing in 29 games through his first three seasons.
