Towering tackle impressed with facilities during midweek visit to Maryland

2025 Christiansburg (VA) offensive tackle Carter Stallard had already been to Maryland in the past, most recently on campus for camp last month for an offer, but the 6-foot-8, 315-pound lineman made his way for his first unofficial visit.

“I got to see the whole campus, then they took us through the indoor and we watched them practice for a little. It was nice. I didn’t know the campus was that big,” Stallard told IBG. “They were just doing some on-air practices.” There was one aspect that stuck out above the rest on the visit. “The weight room impressed me the most,” Stallard added.

Offensive line coach Brian Braswell and wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer are working on the towering Virginia lineman early, but Wednesday’s visit gave Stallard a chance to get to know another long-time staffer. “Coach Braswell had something to do so he had to leave early so the assistant [offensive] line coach, coach [Louis] Swaba, he took over. We got to work with each other when I was up there for the camp so it wasn’t the first time.”

In the same week that head coach Mike Locksley said Maryland has “put a premium on how we recruit” at Big Ten Media Day, Stallard is keeping the Terps in mind early in the process. “I loved it. Definitely enjoyed my time up there. It’s close to home so I’d definitely say that I’m interested.”

Stallard was originally invited to visit Maryland on Saturday, but made the midweek visit fit into his schedule instead as he wraps up a busy week. Stallard made his way to Virginia on Thursday and Louisville on Friday and is set to return to Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Stallard is not yet rated by On3, but is a three-star and an 87 overall by 247Sports.
