Top-25 prospect Khani Rooths schedules Maryland official visit

Maryland head coach Kevin Willard is only weeks away from watching several of his top 2024 and 2025 targets make their way to campus for official visits, and now, top-25 prospect Khani Rooths has set his official visit to Maryland.

Rooths, a 6-foot-8 forward from IMG Academy (FL), will now officially visit Maryland on September 15. Rooths will also officially visit Virginia Tech beginning September 2, then Michigan on September 8 before heading to College Park. After Maryland, Rooths will officially visit Florida State beginning September 22, Miami beginning September 28 followed by Georgia on October 5.

Georgia will mark the lone school to host Rooths for a second official visit where he’ll get an updated look at the Bulldogs’ facilities. Maryland, meanwhile, has been chasing Rooths since the beginning of the cycle and the spring hire of assistant Mike Jones gave the Terps another connections given Jones began recruiting Rooths while on the Hokies’ staff. Despite beginning his high school career at Georgetown Prep, convincing the elite target to stay home will now be the biggest hurdle for Maryland with Jones and Willard getting a chance to change his mind.

“They’re home for me. I’m still debating on if I want to stay home or not,” he said this week. “So, that is probably the biggest thing with them. I have a good relationship with the coaching staff there, and I know a lot of the guys there personally. It’s a great school, I just have to figure out if I want to stay home or not.”

Rooths won’t be the only big man on campus that weekend as four-star forward Matt Hodge begins his official visit on September 14 as Willard and the staff look to get the ball rolling in the 2024 cycle. Four-star guard Jaeden Mustaf will also officially visit Maryland on September 1 before 2025 four-star Efe Oliogu heads to campus the following week for his official visit. Meanwhile, five-star point guard Boogie Fland is set to officially visit Maryland beginning September 29.

Rooths is rated a four-star prospect and a 97 overall by On3, sitting as the fifth-best prospect in Florida.
