Times, TV Coverage Released for Maryland Men’s Basketball’s 2022-23 Season

The last portion of Maryland men’s basketball’s schedule was announced on Thursday with times and television largely finalized.

Maryland will have nine games across the ESPN networks and five games on FS1 with 14 of Maryland’s 25 opponents making an appearance in last season’s NCAA Tournament. As Kevin Willard set to kick off his first game as Maryland’s head coach on BTN+ against Niagara, college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein continued his national tour with a stop in College Park on Wednesday.

His first observation? Senior forward Donta Scott is down 15-20 pounds and “has completely changed his body.” After averaging a career-high 12.6 points in over 33 minutes per game, Scott has an opportunity to emerge as the clear leader on a rejuvenated Maryland squad. Rothstein’s projected starting five of Jamir Young, Donald Carey, Hakim Hart, Donta Scott and Julian Reese isn’t a surprise, but neither was his biggest question.

Behind Scott and Reese, the Terps’ frontcourt depth is thin with grad transfer Patrick Emilien and freshman Caelum Swanton-Rodger joining Pavlo Dziuba and Arnaud Revaz. Aside from questioning how quickly the new pieces can gel with the rest of the roster under a first year head coach, Maryland’s frontcourt returns minimal experience outside of Emilien. The former St. Francis forward averaged 12.5 points on 47.8% shooting in just over 30 minutes per game last season, an aspect that could give him the nod off the bench.
