Head coach Mike Locksley and the Maryland football staff will welcome its second and final group of visitors to campus ahead of the dead period and looming early signing period next week as they look to put the finishing touches on their high school class. The priority, though, remains the transfer portal with more veteran linemen trekking through campus.
Maryland is wrapping up an official visit with former Murray State offensive lineman DJ Jones with his dad and sister on campus. Jones, a 6-foot-5 redshirt senior, started the last 20 games at RT for Murray State as Maryland works to shore up the offensive line. Again, adding a potential starting tackle out of the portal could help Maryland’s chances of retaining DJ Glaze for the 2024 season as that remains the focus this offseason.
While Jones wraps up his visit, former Georgia OT Aliou Bah is now on day two of his visit as offensive line coach Brian Braswell leads the way now after wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer got Maryland in the mix. Bah entered the transfer portal earlier this week and developed into a coveted recruit as the starting RG for IMG Academy (FL). Bah is joined by his aunt and uncle during his official visit.
Maryland will soon welcome two more portal visitors on campus with former UNC CB Tayon Holloway and DL Quindario Lee set to arrive on Friday. Holloway wrapped up an official to Louisville beginning Wednesday and heads straight to College Park after running backs coach Latrell Scott met with the former four-star on Tuesday. Holloway doesn’t enter the weekend with imminent plans to make a decision given his official visit to LSU is already set for Jan. 4, but the midyear transfer will quickly make moves following his trip to Baton Rouge as Maryland looks to add another portal cornerback.
Lee, who the staff picked up an offer last week, is coming off an official visit to Minnesota as Maryland looks to wrap his recruitment up this weekend as he makes the trip to College Park alongside his parents and girlfriend. Lee posted 43 tackles, 12 TFLs, five sacks and one fumble recovery over the last two seasons and has two years of eligibility remaining.
Meanwhile, current offensive line commits Davon Watkins and Trevor Szymanski are expected to officially visit this weekend after going public with their pledges this fall. Watkins announced his verbal following the season-opening win vs. Towson, while Szymanski announced plans in November to rejoin his brother and freshman tight end, AJ, in College Park.
Concordia Prep (MD) four-star DL Ernest Willor is no longer expected to officially visit Maryland this weekend.
