The List: Local Flavor Headed to Maryland for SMU Matchup

Maryland will have nearly 150 prospects visit when SMU comes to town with a large presence from Eastern (MD), Saint John’s Catholic Prep (DC) and a host of local schools.

With six commits on campus in WR Sean Williams, WR Zeke Avit, QB Champ Long, WR Ryan Manning, IOL Tamarus Walker and OLB Daniel Wingate, a handful of uncommitted prospects will trek to campus. Maryland stopped by Dudley (NC) in the spring to check on WR RJ Baker, leading to an offer, as he makes his first trip to campus. Given Avit’s current status, Maryland could be done at the position this cycle but wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer continues to dip into his territory. Another prospect who picked up an offer in the spring was Bishop Ireton (VA) TE/OT Amondi James, who has transitioned from tight end to an offensive tackle target. His 6-foot-6 frame and athleticism make the versatility possible as the staff evaluates their offensive tackle board. Middletown (DE) OT Anwar O’Neal is another who camped at Maryland in the spring and is returning to campus as the staff keeps tabs on him. IMG (MD) kicker Roman Levant will also be in College Park with the kicker spot open for the 2023 season. Outside linebacker coach is leading for Levant as the position and area recruiter. Other 2023 visitors include St. Frances (MD) offensive lineman PJ Wilkins and IMG Academy (FL) WR Jared Merk.

In the 2024 class, the crew is headlined by St. John’s (DC) four-star OL Jordan Seaton. Led by running backs coach Elijah Brooks, Maryland was first to offer the blue chip lineman. The question early on wasn’t whether Seaton would be a dominant lineman in college, but whether he projects as a guard or tackle. Despite playing both through high school, Seaton projects best at guard and has drawn a national offer list as expected. Seaton was high on Maryland early in the process but the big offers have caught his eye, so Saturday marks an opportunity for Maryland to cement their status in the mix. Good Counsel (MD) DE Darien Mayo will also be in town as the towering edge rusher looks every bit of 6-foot-2. Starting opposite of Ole Miss commit Neeo Avery, Mayo heard from Maryland on September 1 and has the Terps high on his list. Gaithersburg (MD) RB Gideon Ituka and Milford Mill (MD) QB Deshawn Purdie are two more who drew offers during the spring and will keep Maryland under consideration until decision time. Maryland was also in attendance for Gaithersburg’s game, which was called off due to fighting. Erasmus Hall (NY) three-star DE Aaris Bethea, Rock Creek (MD) OLB Kieran Berry, Pallotti (MD) OT Ryan Howerton will also be in attendance.

Other visitors include Long Reach (MD) OL Alex Willis, Matoaca (VA) OT Caleb Williams, Freedom (VA) WR Jeffrey Overton, Freedom (VA) ATH Juju Preston, McDonogh (MD) OLB Kamden Laudenslager, Matoaca (VA) WR Bryce Yates and 2026 St. Christopher’s School (VA) OT Darius Gray.
