Spring Grove OL Michael Hershey commits to Maryland

Maryland has landed another commitment in the trenches, this time from Spring Grove (PA) offensive lineman Michael Hershey following his official visit this weekend.

Maryland became the first Power Five offer for the 6-foot-4 lineman after he unofficially visited and worked out for the staff on Wednesday. One day later, Hershey had plans set to officially visit Maryland.

Hershey becomes the third commitment of the day, joining Josiah McLaurin and Michael McMonigle.

“They said they see me as an interior guy, but they’ll play me at tackle in certain packages though,” Hershey added. “I love it. I definitely love the coaching staff and what they’re doing. I think they’re great. He said he liked my personality, the way I worked. They said that I was coachable so that’s always a positive.”

Hershey visited campus for the spring game as the staff kept tabs on the emerging lineman, where his lean frame put the lineman with a near 79 inch wingspan, 300-pound power clean a 450-pound squat on the radar. Hershey also shined along the defensive line as a junior after posting eight sacks along the defensive line. “He’s a tremendous athlete with great hips, and he’s very coachable,” Spring Grove head coach Tyke Conover said in an interview this spring. “He does what we ask him to do. We’ve tried to make things easier on him. We’ve tried to bring in some technique so it’s not just pushing and pulling.”

Hershey was also named an honorable mention all-state selection as a junior while going 20-4 with 19 pindowns, including eight in less than one minute, en route to a wrestling state medal at 285 pounds.

Hershey becomes the fourth offensive line commitment for Maryland in the 2024 class, joining DeMatha (MD) offensive tackle Terez Davis, Central Dauphin (PA) offensive tackle Anthony Robsock and William Penn (PA) offensive tackle Michael McMonigle.
