With two transfer additions already announced, Maryland basketball has announced the third addition to the backcourt after former USF guard Selton Miguel made his commitment official on Friday.
Miguel, a native of Angola, joins the program after being named the AAC Sixth Man of the Year and the league’s Most Improved Player after averaging 14.7 points per game. He also shot 39% from three and ranked second in assists (71) and steals (38) last season. Prior to his two seasons at USF, Miguel spent two years at Kansas State where he averaged 7.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 55 total games.

“Selton is a highly competitive player who can really impact the game on both sides of the court,” Willard said via release. “He’s another veteran player who can help us immediately and who has played in a lot of high-level games.”
Miguel, related to former Maryland star Bruno Fernando, committed to Maryland after a 24-hour visit in College Park over a final five that included Ole Miss, West Virginia, Villanova and Oklahoma.
“A two-guard coming in to score the ball. Me coming in and being the guy there, just coming in and be ready to score the ball, make plays for each other and be ready to be that guy to make plays,” Miguel told IBG about why Maryland won out. “They showed me the campus, basically showed me everything. The facilities to the campus, we went out to eat, so I got to see everything really.”

Overall, Miguel has scored 1,189 career points, including nearly 800 at USF in two seasons, and has played in 118 career games. He also has 393 career rebounds, 273 assists, and 104 steals.
Before college, Miguel was a Top 150 prospect from West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Florida, and was among the Top 30 small forwards nationally. After averaging 20.6 points as a senior, he finished with over 1,500 for his prep career.
Originally from Luanda, Angola, Miguel moved to Portugal at age 13 before coming to the United States in the ninth grade. He is fluent in four languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English) and has been a member of the Angolan National Team.
In addition to Miguel, the Terps have also previously announced the additions of transfer guards Rodney Rice (Virginia Tech) and Ja’Kobi Gillespie (Belmont) as well as the signing of freshmen center Derik Queen (Baltimore, Md.) and guard Malachi Palmer (Harrisburg, Pa.).
