Where Maryland football, players ranked in Phil Steele's Preseason Magainze

Phil Steele released his preview for the 2024 season this week and five were honored in his All-Big Ten preseason team, while another was named a top draft prospect in 2025. In addition to picking Maryland tenth in the revamped Big Ten, second-year wide receiver Braeden Wisloski was the lone first-team All-Big Ten selection as a kick returner, while wide receivers Tai Felton and Kaden Prather were both named second-team selections. The defense also produced a pair of selections with LB Ruben Hyppolite named a second-team selection, while safety Dante Trader Jr. was a fourth-team pick. Wisloski, a former three-star recruit out of Southern Columbia Area (PA), enrolled early at Maryland last season as he got comfortable as a wide receiver, but his big play ability and second-gear speed made him an immediate contender as a returner before winning out the starting job. Wisloski went on to appear in all 13 games where he finished third in the Big Ten in kickoff return average (23.8), while his 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown marked the first for the program since 2019 and longest since Stefon Diggs did so in 2012. Wisloski returns to lead a group of talented returners in College Park as Steele picked Maryland as the Big Ten’s top-rated special teams unit. Felton and Prather headline Maryland’s wide receiver room as both finished the 2023 season ranked top-three in receiving yards, average yards per catch and touchdowns. Both also finished inside the top five in average yards per catch in the Big Ten, while Phil Steele predicted third-year wideout Shaleak Knotts as the third starting wideout in 2024. Kaden Prather also checked in as the fifth-best draft-eligible wide receiver, while Felton enters the season at 18th as Steele tabbed Maryland as the 35th-best wide receiver room nationally. Meanwhile, veteran safety Dante Trader Jr. checked in as the second-best draft-eligible strong safety in Steele’s preview, while new portal addition Jalen Huskey slid in as the 27th-best draft-eligible cornerback. Roman Hemby also checked in as the 39th-best draft-eligible running back, Tommy Akingbesote was named the 51st-best defensive tackle while Quashon Fuller was also named as the 62nd-best defensive end. Maryland will open the season in less than 80 days when they host UConn for a noon kickoff on FS1.
