What I'm hearing: word on Dyches, coaches on the road, OL update

The latest notes: I posted it in the 2024 roster thread this morning, but the growing expectation over the last 24 hours was that TE Corey Dyches was planning to enter the transfer portal. That became a near-certainty on Saturday morning as Dyches went ahead and announced plans this afternoon. Word emerged midseason that returning in 2024 remained on the table with optimism for a return, but the tune changed over the last week with a departure increasingly likely in recent days. With the portal now the announced route, I’m hearing Dyches is looking to head somewhere with an established quarterback in place and I wouldn’t be shocked if Dyches lands at Colorado while Oklahoma State has also been mentioned as of late. There’s still a chance that Maryland sees additional attrition on the offensive side of the ball from a rotational player. While this stuff changes daily, I’ve actually been told that despite another Power Five program trying to change his mind, the sentiment late this week is that RB Roman Hemby returns for another season in College Park. DJ Glaze is the prize of the offseason, considering the offensive line faces another rebuild while Glaze draws NFL interest, but his stay-or-go decision still remains largely undecided heading into the weekend. Meanwhile, coaches hit the road on Friday and head coach Mike Locksley and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis were in attendance for Wise’s title game against Broadneck on Friday night, while I heard that Maryland also checked in on current ’24 verbal Mike McMonigle. As mentioned earlier this week, Maryland is also expected to be in attendance for Saturday’s playoff game between Phoebus and King George. Meanwhile, I’m also hearing that ILB coach Lance Thompson and DC Brian Williams were along the sideline on Friday night to watch Norland take down Bolles, 28-7, in the state semifinals as Maryland continues to prioritize flip target Jeremiah Marcelin. While Nebraska has been involved, I’m also hearing a lot of chatter that Louisville is pushing very hard to flip Maryland verbal Larry Tarver Jr. and it does sound like there’s continued mutual interest down the stretch. Tarver Jr. is someone to keep an eye on down the stretch as the Terps continue to work hard to keep him in the fold. Elsewhere along the offensive line, the competition has picked up for initial portal target and D2 OL Alan Herron with Maryland now on the outside-looking-in, with a visit not yet set in stone despite Herron setting up visits to Clemson, Penn State and Texas Tech. Maryland has pieces that can fight for starting spots inside next season, such as Kyle Long and Marcus Dumervil, with a need to find a center and reinforce the interior offensive line. One target that Maryland has been tracking through the fall is Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Que McBroom, who included Maryland in his top group on Friday alongside Appalachian State, Southern Miss, UAB, UNLV and Louisiana-Lafayette. McBroom is on his first official to UNLV this weekend, but Maryland will be the last school to host the juco target for an official visit with his visit now set for the weekend of Dec. 15. Maryland enters December as the team to beat as the juco target has three years to play two.
