Maryland is coming off big portal commitments on Wednesday evening, first from former NC State QB MJ Morris then Purdue IOL Josh Kaltenberger. Morris told IBG he will move onto campus on January 2 where the quarterback room enters its first true battle of the Mike Locksley era. Maryland became the apparent pick on the morning of day two of his official visit and by Saturday morning, all was solidified with his decision as the Terps followed it up with a portal commitment the following day from CB Jalen Huskey. As for Kaltenberger, he was wrapped up with visits after this past weekend's official visit--until today. A source tells IBG that the former Purdue lineman made his way back to College Park today, telling the staff he intends to spend his final season of eligibility in College Park. While there was confidence with former Michigan/Indiana IOL Zach Carpenter, Kaltenberger's decision helps address the undoubted biggest need of the cycle. Meanwhile, a source confirmed that former UNC CB Tayon Holloway will take an official visit to Maryland beginning Friday. Assistant Henry Baker is involved, but it’s assistant Latrell Scott leading the charge as the ace 757 recruiter was able to sit down with the 6-foot-0.5 redshirt sophomore on Tuesday. Holloway is on an official visit to Louisville right now and will check out LSU on Jan. 4, and he’ll make his decision immediately after that with the second semesters at his top three suitors set to begin. If his name rings a bell, it’s because he was one of the priority recruiters under former assistant Zohn Burden who unsurprisingly never materialized. Latrell Scott’s presence in the 757 has helped Maryland’s chances heading into the weekend with cornerback still a focus after the addition of Jalen Huskey, but don’t expect immediate developments with him. Holloway has three years to play three remaining and is set to arrive late Friday morning. Holloway won’t be the only portal visitor on campus this weekend as former Central Michigan DL Quindario Lee is expected to officially visit Maryland this weekend. Lee is coming off an official visit to Minnesota while Michigan State is also involved in his recruitment, but Maryland should get the last shot before the midyear transfer makes his decision. Lee posted 43 tackles, 12 TFLs, five sacks and one fumble recovery over the last two seasons and has two years of eligibility remaining. Elsewhere, Maryland also remains in the picture for former Baylor TE Drake Dabney, who also has Louisville and TCU in the mix. Meanwhile, Maryland is expected to go in-home with South Carolina verbal Braydon Lee on Thursday night. While Lee isn’t exactly a Cock Lock, I like where Maryland stands with Lee himself heading into the final week. Maryland has done well through the fall Maryland did well to move the needle and ease concerns with his mom during his official visit over the weekend, and that’ll be the continued focus heading into the final days as Maryland works on the local flip. I have Lee firmly entrenched at ‘warm’ heading into Thursday. The other wildcard in the class remains Bishop McNamara (MD) four-star edge Lugard Edokpayi, who is on day two of his official visit to Michigan. The twist heading into Thursday is the Wolverines are now the last scheduled official visit as the 'Noles have ended their pursuit with this weekend's official visit now off. As for what this means, Maryland remains in a battle for the local 6-foot-7, 227-pound edge rusher with Michigan a heavy contender while Rutgers is the wildcard in the race. Maryland is coming off a strong visit, but there's ground to make up after ramping up the pursuit toward the latter half of his senior season.
