Watch: Roman Hemby, DJ Samuels talk mindset around Maryland football heading into 2024 opener

Maryland football wrapped up fall camp this week with the team now entrenched in gameplan mode ahead of Saturday's season-opener vs. UConn.

As Mike Locksley is set to kick off year six as head coach, Maryland will look to secure its 19th consecutive season-opening win in the first matchup against the Huskies since 2013.

Running back Roman Hemby enters this weekend just 12 yards shy of 2,400 career all-purpose yards as he looks to lead a balanced room into the season with several underclassmen looking to make a name for themselves this fall. Hemby, who was named to both the Athlon Sports preseason fourth-team All-Big Ten and Shrine Bowl 1000, averaged just under five yards per carry and finished with 680 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns in 2023. Hemby talks about his focus heading into the season, underclassmen stepping up in practice and the impact of the run game.

Meanwhile, New Jersey native and linebacker DJ Samuels has been able to showcase himself as an asset in run support as he enters his second season with the program after playing four games in 2023. Samuels arrived in College Park in June of 2023 after becoming one of the most accomplished defenders out of power house Bergen Catholic (NJ). Samuels set the school's all-time sacks record as he helped lead Bergen Catholic to three consecutive state championships. Samuels registered 13.5 tackles for loss and six sacks as a senior to end his career a three-time first-team All-State selection. Samuels talks about his growth from year one to two at Maryland, how he fits into the rotation and the buzz around the Terps' star-studded defense.
