Matoaca (VA) wide receiver Bryce Yates is no stranger to College Park and made the trip to campus for the Illinois game. While the result may not have been what he hoped for, the 6-foot wide receiver will be back in College Park this weekend when the Terps host ninth-ranked Penn State.
"I plan on coming back for the Penn State game," Yates told IBG.
Yates has been a frequent visitor since the summer heading into his sophomore season as his last visit gave him a chance to reconnect with multiple coaches. "I stayed after, had a meeting with the coaches after the game and then I got a tour too. We had good conversations." Wide receiver coach Gunter Brewer is the one who initially built a strong relationship with the Virginia native as running backs coach Latrell Scott has picked up his recruitment since.
"I hear from both of them. I feel like we’ve got a great bond. Coach Brew, he’s been recruiting me for the past two years, since I was a freshman. I feel like we can talk about anything, chop it up, talk about life. He’s just a good dude."
While Kaden Prather statistically led the receiver room in a lackluster effort from the Terps' skill players against Illinois, Yates has kept close tabs on the Terps' offensive style and Mike Locksley offense. "I like all the receivers. All of them play differently, play their own role in the offense."
What keeps Yates making trips to College Park?
"They make me feel welcome. I just feel like I’m in my own house. I can be myself. I’m comfortable."
