Maryland has tracked Landstown (VA) offensive tackle Isaiah Montgomery through the spring into the early stages of summer as June now gives the staff an opportunity to bring the lineman onto campus. Montgomery did exactly that when he made it to Maryland on Sunday for a visit and workout with offensive line coach Brian Braswell, giving the Terps a chance to further evaluate the Virginia target as Maryland continues to build their offensive tackle board.
“It went pretty good. I pulled my hamstring a little bit running the 40 but I’m still good,” Montgomery told Inside the Black & Gold. “The 40 was first then everything else was after but everything else, my hamstring wasn’t hurting as bad but the field stuff, kick stuff went well with coach Braswell.” The workout also gave Montgomery an accurate impression of how Braswell coaches, an aspect he enjoyed on Sunday.
“He’s a cool guy. He changed up a lot of what I was doing so it makes a lot more sense now.” Montgomery didn’t take in a full campus tour but did get a chance to see the new indoor facility. “It’s a big place and it looks dope. The locker room, that was super nice.” Head coach Mike Locksley also got a chance to meet Montgomery on Sunday while Locksley and Montgomery’s parents had a lengthy conversation during the trip. The 6-foot-5, 280-pound lineman came away with one clear message from the staff.
“That they’re going to build something big there and they just got a new facility so they’re going to really be building the program.”
Montgomery added that after the workout, the Terps confirmed they see him as a tackle prospect. The move would elevate Maryland’s pursuit for the Virginia native, but Sunday’s visit wasn’t the only trip that Montgomery has taken in so far. He’s taken unofficial visits to Old Dominion, East Carolina, and NC State while he’s fresh off an official visit to Pittsburgh, where left tackle Carter Warren hosted him.
“I really enjoyed it up there. Got a good look at the program and facilities and loved meeting all the coaches.”
Montgomery has one visit set moving forward with an official visit set for Illinois the weekend of June 25. He has no timetable for a decision.
Montgomery is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the 24th-best prospect in Virginia.
