Virginia Linebacker Releases Top Three, Sets Commitment Date

Unity Reed (VA) three-star linebacker Amare Campbell announced his top three on Monday evening with a late August commitment date.
Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia remain in the mix for the 6-foot, 210-pound linebacker and he will go public with his pledge on August 24.
Campbell kicked off his official visits with a trip to Maryland the first weekend of June as inside linebackers coach Lance Thompson has picked up his recruitment. Campbell then took a midweek official visit to West Virginia during the final week of June before wrapping up with a trip to North Carolina the weekend of June 24.
Campbell has visited Maryland several times under the new staff and took in a spring practice and was also hosted by freshman linebacker Caleb Wheatland during his trip to College Park. [Caleb Wheatland] was telling me how at first, he didn’t want to go close to home but he said since he’s been there, it’s been great. the ability to be close to home and go back,” he said at the time. “And then the coaches, [Lance Thompson] he has so much knowledge so the things he teaches Caleb, he’s already been improved over just a short period of time since high school.”
Thompson has done well to build a strong relationship with the priority target. “He talks to me every day and I love that. I love feeling wanted by a coach. That’s the main thing and telling me he wants me to come there. What coach [Lance] Thompson is like, how he teaches. I’ve sat in during a position meeting but he didn’t go over how he teaches, the way he teaches and the oracles of what he’s preaching, I love it.”
Campbell is not yet rated by On3, but sits as a three-star prospect and an 85 overall according to 247Sports.
