Virginia DL makes long-awaited return trip to Maryland, talks relationship with new assistant

The start of spring practice has brought in a long list of visitors around the DMV this past week with Saturday’s practice drawing its largest crowd yet. Among them was Phoebus (VA) three-star edge rusher Anthony Reddick, who got a chance to familiarize himself with the changes in and around College Park. “It was good. Definitely enjoyed the time up there. I haven’t been there since my freshman year,” Reddick told IBG. Maryland was the first verbal offer for Reddick after former assistant Zohn Burden jumped in nearly two years ago while Gunter Brewer picked up efforts since, but now, new running backs coach and ace Virginia recruiter Latrell Scott is leading the charge. “He was recruiting me when he was at . We’re still trying to build a better relationship. We were talking a bit when he was at ECU but now we’re really talking, just building.” Given that he projects as an outside linebacker for Maryland, Reddick got a chance to watch the linebackers during Saturday’s practice. “Everything was moving so quick, the energy was high, everyone was moving at high speeds. It was interesting. I could kind of just pay attention to everything going on.” After talking with Scott and outside linebackers coach James Thomas following Saturday’s practice, Reddick admitted his interest in Maryland has risen given the heightened contact. “It’s more than what it was at first,” he added. Reddick holds a double-digit offer sheet with Duke, Virginia Tech, Colorado, Virginia and Penn State among the schools in the mix. Reddick is a possibility to return for Maryland’s spring game, but he will unofficially visit Wake Forest on Tuesday. Reddick is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3, sitting as the 11th-best prospect in Virginia and 40th-best edge rusher in the country. Reddick was named first-team all region and posted 21 sacks as a junior.
