The latestĀ rumblings surrounding College Park with Maryland football and basketball heating up: -The visitors continue to roll through College Park with another slate of visitors expected later this week for Maryland football. Spalding (MD) three-star linebacker Keyshawn Flowers was on campus for Tuesday's practice as Maryland remains a prime contender in his recruitment. One day after four-star Aaron Chiles and his parents visit campus, Maryland will welcome a group out of C.H. Flowers with four-star outside linebacker Obinna Onwuka, three-star OT Mike Williams, cornerback Lloyd Irvin, three-star linebacker Kendric Council and defensive lineman Herb Gray. Thereās a possibility that four-star cornerback Braydon Lee also makes his way to campus though he's going through a tough week due to personal reasons, but itās a concerted effort by Maryland to continue turning the tide at the PG County school following Elijah Brooksā departure. Maryland remains in line to receive official visits from Onwuka, Williams and Lee while Williams will also visit campus on Wednesday with his parents as the staff chips away. - It's become increasingly likely in recent days that Willard could be in position to lose his second assistant coach as buzz has centered around Maryland assistant Grant Billmeier being first in line for the NJIT head coaching job job. Billmeier got a chance to interview last week where he remains one of the finalists, but my understanding is itās Billmeierās job to turn down as we await a final decision. While it was clear finding a proven local recruiter was the focus to replace Tony Skinn, itās unclear which direction Willard will turn with a decision now needed from Billmeier. Meanwhile, I'm still moving forward with the expectation that Donta Scott makes a stay-or-go decision on Wednesday as he and Willard reconnect one more time to discuss next year's plans. -Maryland football has also watched a long list of 2025 and 2026 prospects stroll through College Park with practice in full swing, but the staff also hosted a 2023 prospect on Tuesday: Kevin Dougherty. The name may ring a bell as we profiled him last month with tight ends coach Kevin Sumlin and analyst Preston Brown showing interest and after taking in Tuesdayās practice and sitting down with Sumlin, Brown and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, Maryland could be in position for an addition. Dougherty is set to reconnect with the staff on Tuesday night with the possibility of an offer coming to the table and should the staff pull the trigger, I like Maryland to land the late target. Dougherty still has a pair of visits left with Miami also showing interest, but the Terps are the team in best position as they would bring him onto campus in June as a tight end. Dougherty, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound athlete, also drew late interest on the defensive side of the ball as a possible defensive end or outside linebacker, but Marylandās need for the big-framed blocking tight end persists as Dougherty could become a long-term answer for that need.
