A couple of notes I've gathered from the trail over the last 24 hours and change:
-It’s going to be an uphill battle to get Pallotti LB Gabe Williams on campus, but Maryland is still trying. Williams is set to officially visit Pitt then Virginia Tech with an official to Duke set for the 23rd, but Maryland is working to flip that visit schedule—just like with Chanz Wiggins—and get him on campus then. I am hearing that a new school is involved and Williams is expected to officially visit Nebraska beginning June 4. He’ll also make his way USC in mid-June while he’s out west for the OT7 event the weekend of June 16. Plenty of room for Maryland to make their way up the ladder board but ILB coach Lance Thompson has remained in frequent contact.
-I’m also hearing similar with Williams’ teammate, OT Ryan Howerton. He’s set to officially visit Pitt and West Virginia and is working on setting just one more official: Maryland or Virginia Tech. The Hokies continue to hit the area hard and Elijah Brooks was the one who was primarily recruiting Howerton while at Maryland, but ILB coach Lance Thompson has resumed those efforts while OL coach Brian Braswell has remained in contact as recently as Tuesday. Still a battle, but possibility Howerton is on campus at least once next month.
-One positive development, I’m hearing that Maryland has secured the final official visit for Good Counsel WR Elijah Moore as he’s locked in to visit the weekend of June 23. Moore is already slated to visit Ohio St on the 16th with the Buckeyes heavily involved, while it sounds like FSU and UF are expected to kick off the round of visits.
-Maryland will also host local visitors tomorrow with Baltimore City (MD) making their way to campus, including 2024 WR verbal Jahmari Powell-Wonson and 2025 WR Vernon Allen. Similar to JPW, Allen is a name to keep close tabs on next cycle as the 6-foot-3 WR has held an offer since March after the staff ID’ed him through his sophomore year. Michigan, WVU, UNC and VT are among the other schools to offer as well but have heard Allen could return to campus next month to work with WR coach Gunter Brewer at a camp and that he and Brewer have built a strong rapport early.Recruiting
