Notes from the recruiting trail with Maryland football on a bye week:
Kitchens notched six catches and nearly broke a pair of TDs in an absolute dominant showing by St. James in a 43-7 win at Good Counsel on Friday night. I mentioned Penn State was one of several schools trying to flip Kitchens this fall, though a source in addition to Kitchens says he’s locked in with Maryland. One non-Maryland school the WR pledge may visit is Cincinnati, who was a finalist and is also where close friend and freshman WR Geo Kontosis currently plays. But Kitchens quieted any concern about any flip possibility while a source added he's locked in with Maryland as he was back in College Park for the win vs. NIU two weeks ago alongside several teammates and is also expected to return to College Park for a Big Ten game before enrolling in January.
Hearing there’s been a midseason transfer with Maryland TE pledge JJ Williams now at Northwest. He isn’t the only departure for Bullis with Williams joining DB Chris Tangelo, committed to Vanderbilt, with both transferring out of Bullis this season due to the program’s strict enrollment policies. With the transfer, a source also confirms that Williams is good to go and enroll at Maryland in January where there’s high optimism that Williams can become an early impact in College Park.
Maryland saw a trio of priority 2027 four-star targets on Friday: four-star edge Abraham Sesay, four-star CB Kenaz Sullivan and four-star IOL Carter Jones. Sesay also tells IBG he’s working to schedule a trip to Maryland, though nothing locked in yet, with Maryland a consistent contender in his recruitment through the summer. Last update on him here. On Sullivan, the four-star made a trip in the spring for a quick visit with assistant Aazaar Abdul-Rahim leading early there. As for Jones, he’ll join both Sullivan and Sesay at Penn State for Saturday’s game vs. Oregon where assistants Latrell Scott and Damian Wroblewski have led the charge for the guard target.
Also hearing HC Mike Locksley and assistant Latrell Scott were in at Maury on Friday checking on 2027 Matt Williams, who visited for the Towson game with Scott staying on top of the 6-foot true athlete from the program that produced freshman LB CJ Smith.
