Maryland basketball’s top portal prospect hits the road for his next visit, while another out-of-state target will head to campus later this week. The latest:
Michigan transfer Hunter Dickinson will head to Kansas today for his two-day visit as head coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks look to climb the ladder board. The biggest concern when it comes to the Jayhawks remains the NIL piece, while Kansas missed on Syracuse transfer Jesse Edwards to give Dickinson a clear feature role in the frontcourt.
How much will Dickinson cost in NIL? I expect $500K to be the floor for Dickinson while the concern ahead is the Jayhawks extend a seven-figure deal that makes it tough for Maryland to compete. There’s also a strong sense that Maryland can’t miss out on Dickinson and have money be the driving reason. Fundraising efforts have been in full effect since Dickinson entered the portal, with Turtle NIL more than tripling the number of monthly perk subscribers over the last two months. Maryland also raised five-figures the day that Jahmir Young announced his return to College Park, while aside from the big three—Jahmir Young, Donta Scott and Julian Reese—both Noah Batchelor and Jahari Long have been able to benefit from TNIL. Since the offseason began, the steady increase in support from both fans and boosters have bolstered the collective in the weeks since.Donate to Turtle NIL here and enter ‘IBG’ in the comment
Heading into the visit, confidence still sits high in College Park and there’s still a sense that Dickinson genuinely wants to play at Maryland. The opportunity to reunite with his former head coach, Mike Jones, and point guard, Jahmir Young, have carried weight while there’s an appeal in playing closer to home. The minor details like staying within the conference and having to face Michigan are viewed as minor hurdles, but Maryland remains squarely in the mix ahead of the key visit. I’ve also heard that Villanova remains in the mix despite no visit thus far, Georgetown and new head coach Ed Cooley look for his signature piece for the year one rebuild. News also surfaced that Dickinson will visit Kentucky beginning Sunday with the blue bloods heating up. For now, it’s all eyes on Kansas the next two days.
On the football side, Maryland will welcome another visitor from Florida this weekend when Michael Krop (FL) cornerback Kal-El Pascal makes his way to campus for a two-day unofficial beginning Friday. Pascal, the 6-foot corner, is a take for Maryland with defensive coordinator Brian Williams in pursuit of the Miami native and his coach tells IBG an official visit should be finalized to return to College Park this summer. A pair of teammates are also headed to campus with him in 2025 receiver Ronald Towns, who holds an offer, and 2024 OLB Caleb Turner-Allen. Meanwhile, there’s confidence that the Terps will become the fifth official visit for Good Counsel (MD) four-star LB Aaron Chiles alongside Michigan, Clemson, Florida and Notre Dame with the Wolverines still in line to get the last official.Related Links
