Optimism on star player…wide receiver Rakim Jarrett spent much of the early part of this week resting and recovering after departing from Saturday’s game with a lower leg injury. Head coach Mike Locksley said that Jarrett was unable to practice on Monday, but that wasn’t the case on Wednesday after taking on a big workload. Locksley said on Tuesday that Jarrett is a gametime decision, but “if I’m a betting man, I know Rakim Jarrett wants to play in this game and I would think that he will be available.” Following Wednesday’s practice, there’s confidence that he’ll be available against Penn State.
Coaches on the road…tight ends coach Mike Miller and inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson will hit the road following Thursday’s practice to trek to the northeast. That’ll give them a chance to check on defensive tackle verbal Lavon Johnson with Cheshire Academy facing Suffield Academy in the season finale. They’ll also get a chance to meet with the mom of offensive lineman Keyshawn Blackstock as the staff is in full pursuit. Maryland has been consistent with him through the fall despite a list of heavy hitters also chasing. With his teammate and Coffeyville safety Bishop Fitzgerald likely officially visiting on December 9, Maryland is working to get Blackstock on campus that same weekend.
OV weekend…speaking of December 9, that’ll be the weekend that five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor and FSU verbal Jaden Jones officially visit Maryland. Jones is a tough read even with the staff having connections to his family, while Harbor has taken note of his fit in Maryland’s offense. In Harbor’s mind, which side of the ball he plays on is a case-by-case basis as schools preach his potential on the defensive side of the ball. For Maryland? Let him be the big framed tight end who can break downfield and make big plays. That pitch is one that’s excited Harbor and keeps the Terps in the mix. As for his official visit schedule, the LSU official that Harbor frequently mentioned was fluid has been reschedule for December 2.
