VIP: Injury Note, Feedback from Recruit Visits

Maryland added a late slate of local recruits ahead of their showdown with SMU. With the majority of recruits staying inside The Shell for the entirety of the game, Maryland was able to move to 3-0 after a comeback win in a game that featured nearly 1,000 yards of total offense. With conference play beginning this week, we break down the latest. Injury notes…The lone notable injury coming out of Saturday’s win is linebacker Ruben Hyppolite. The junior linebacker left the game in the first series and headed to the locker room as the training staff checked out a lower leg injury. Ruben didn’t return and appeared to struggle to put weight on his leg once he returned to the sideline, leaving Maryland a possible void in the middle. We’ll know more on his status shortly ahead of Mike Locksley’s weekly press conference on Tuesday, but there’s some concern he may not be available for Maryland’s road test against Michigan. Another who was inactive on Saturday? Safety Glen Miller, who was seen in a sling on his right arm, did not dress. The secondary’s depth is getting tested early, though early enrollee Gavin Gibson played his most complete game yet in Saturday’s win. As for cornerback Tarheeb Still, word trickled out on Friday morning that the junior would give it a go for Saturday’s game after missing the Charlotte game. Still’s first play ended with him headed to the sideline to get his finger checked at by the medical staff, but he found himself in the game often in the second half against SMU’s air raid. Maryland will likely remain cautious with Still’s recovery this week but he’s expected to be active for next weekend’s matchup against fourth-ranked Michigan. Top ‘24 recruits visit College Park…Maryland had a late crew of talent head to campus for the win. In addition to four-star Jordan Seaton, four-star linebacker Gabe Williams, Boston College verbal Durell Robinson, four-star linebacker Jaylen Harvey, top-100 prospect Iverson Howard. They were among the nearly 200 recruits that ended up visiting for the game, but intel on Seaton has proven positive. The star St. John’s (DC) lineman ended up staying through the entire game, was in the locker room when head coach Mike Locksley addressed the team and connected with Locksley again afterward. There’s no doubt that Seaton is looking at the blue-bloods and they’ll become a player in his recruitment, but his most recent visit helps entrench the Terps early on in his recruitment. Meanwhile, St. Francis (MD) four-star quarterback Mike Van Buren did not ultimately visit Maryland on Saturday as he flew out to watch Oregon take down BYU 41-20. Maryland’s next home game could draw marquee names, one possibly being South Carolina verbal Cam Upshaw. The three-star prospect, who is sidelined for his senior season due to injury, reiterated last week that he still intends to visit College Park that weekend. The staff reached out to Upshaw upon learning news of his injury as they keep tabs on his recruitment, leaving the door open for a late official.
