Maryland football is just about at the halfway point of spring ball with practice number seven underway in College Park. The media will get a chance to talk with new Maryland WRs Kaden Prather and Tyrese Chambers as both join Jeshaun Jones as the veteran leaders in the room. Takeaways from the open portion of practice:

-Starting OL during the open portion of Tuesday’s practice (L-R): DJ Glaze, Amelio Moran, Aric Harris, Corey Bullock, Marcus Dumervil. No concern—Gottlieb Ayedze led the team through Terp Jacks and was in pads for practice as he continues to anchor the OL.

-Working with the OLBs: Kellan Wyatt, DJ Samuels, Bam Booker, Kobi Thomas and Riyad Wilmot. While the depth is thin, I’ve heard good things on Wyatt between his the mass to his 6-foot-1 frame and view him as a potential starter heading into year two.

-Hearing that TE Rico Walker, who has two feet in with the program in the midst of his first spring ball, has mainly worked on the offensive side of the ball this spring as new TEs coach Kevin Sumlin hones in on technique. Preston Howard, a 6-foot-5 athlete who missed the bulk of his freshman season due to a foot injury, looks fluid in the open field as he elevates the competition in the TE room.

-Daniel Owens, who was recruited as a JACK out of high school, has moved to the defensive line this spring where he’s competed for the vacant DE starting job.

-Team will have its first scrimmage this Saturday, the first of three consecutive Saturdays featuring a scrimmage with the third being the spring game on April 29.

-I’m also hearing that former Maryland QB Eric Najarian has shifted into a coaching role with the program where he’ll get a chance to work closer with the QBs. Najarian was out on the field during the first practice and was on the field coaching up both Jayden Sauray and Cam Edge briefly in between drills.

-As far as visitors, Maryland once again hosted some regional schools with Calvert Hall rolling onto campus with several 2024 and 2025 prospects taking in practice. But there was one notable visitor: St. Frances (MD) four-star QB Mike Van Buren. Maryland, Oregon and Penn State are battling with the buzz surrounding the Nittany Lions as high as it’s ever been following last Thursday’s visit. But Van Buren was back on campus with St Frances QB coach where he was walking along the sidelines during before watching the offense at midfield with GM Gerald Dixon. Van Buren remains QB1 on Maryland’s board, but now, there’s little doubt about who to dethrone in the race.Related Links
