Two Maryland football starters draw invites to 2026 NFL Scouting Combine

After sending nine players to the NFL scouting combine over the last two years, Maryland football will once again be represented this year with safety Jalen Huskey and offensive lineman Alan Herron drawing invites to the on-field scouting combine set to begin later this month.

Huskey is set to suit up on Friday, Feb. 27 alongside the defensive backs and tight ends while Herron will suit up on Sunday, March 1 alongside the rest of the offensive linemen.

Herron arrived in College Park after former assistant Brian Braswell led the charge to flip the former Penn State pledge, giving the D-II transfer a chance to step into an impact role on day one. Herron ended his career in College Park starting all 24 games before being named honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2025, getting two more chances to prove himself among other draft-eligible linemen where he went on to compete in the Panini Senior Bowl and American Bowl All-Star Game.

Huskey, a transfer from Bowling Green, proved credence to the offseason buzz after the Quince Orchard product drew steam as an NFL-caliber safety during offseason workouts. After transitioning from cornerback to safety midway through the 2024 season, Huskey blossomed into a full-time starting safety in 2025 before drawing Second Team All-Big Ten honors. Huskey appeared in every game while finishing tied for a team-high four interceptions to go with 72 tackles, the sixth-most among Big Ten defensive backs. Huskey was among the defensive backs to reportedly meet with the Washington Commanders ahead of suiting up in the East-West Shrine Bowl.

Maryland will also have a chance to extend its streak of drafted defensive backs for the fifth consecutive year, while Herron could become the third offensive lineman drafted over the last four years.
