Two-way lineman Darius Gray entered his high school career as an established prospect, already approaching 6-foot-4 heading into his freshman season before showcasing his agility on the hardwood at St. Christopher’s School (VA). His towering size put him on the radar of college coaches as South Carolina, Penn State and Virginia Tech were among the first Power Four schools to extend offers heading into his freshman season. It didn’t take Maryland much longer, becoming the sixth school in the picture after Gray’s second high school game before the likes of Oklahoma, LSU, Oregon and Kentucky jumped into the mix. Ohio State and LSU jumped into the picture last month after the four-star prospect made his way down to each campus for the staffs to get a closer eye on him, giving him more blue-blood flavor on his 20-plus offer list with his list wide open heading into his junior season. Gray, who is days removed from hosting his own camp alongside ’26 four-star WR Davion Brown, has one more camp coming up this summer but is looking forward to his first visit to Tallahassee on the 27th to check out Florida State. “I just really enjoy talking to coach Akins and coach Gabe so I’m excited to see them both in person. I plan on getting down there for a game too,” Gray told IBG. While the top-50 prospect has soaked in his blue blood interest, Maryland has remained in the mix with assistant Latrell Scott maintaining efforts on the early Virginia priority since contact began with 2026 prospects in mid-June. “Coach Braswell and I have talked a bit, I’ve been able to talk with coach Locksley a bit too but it’s mainly been with coach Scott. We’re really tight,” he added. “It’s been going really well. I’ve really enjoyed the process so far. It’s been a good thing to just get closer with the coaches, build something that’s long-term and be around great people.” Gray made his way to campus for the basketball game vs. Michigan State in late January and again for one of the last practices of spring ball as the blue-chip target is keeping the local program on his early list of interested suitors. “I’m definitely interested. They’re close to home so I love that and I really enjoyed being there. I can see myself in their jersey and it’s a very familiar setting.” While the four-star still looks to map out a finalized visit schedule for the fall, there’s one game he knows he wants to get to. “Ohio State vs. Michigan. That’s the number one I want to go see this fall.” Darius Gray is rated a four-star prospect and a 92 overall by On3, checking in as the top-rated prospect in Virginia and the nation’s fourth-best interior offensive lineman.
