Maryland is now down to 19 commitments in the 2024 class as Cy Falls (TX) interior offensive lineman Samir Camacho has backed off his verbal pledge on Tuesday. "I just wanna say first and foremost I thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to have an offer from the University of Maryland. I would like to thank the University of Maryland and the entire coaching staff for their consideration, for the love, and support throughout the entire process. I wish them nothing but the best for them in the future. After many conversations with my family, at this time I have decided to de-commit from the University of Maryland. With that said, my recruitment is 100% open and will be taking my time with making decisions." Camacho previously committed to Maryland over Duke and UTSA while Cal and TCU were among the Power Five schools monitoring the 6-foot-3 lineman. Camacho's announcement comes week after Georgia lineman Donovan Thompson also backed off his pledge, though the Terps are well-positioned on the offensive side of the trenches with seven commits in the fold and juco targets, along with five-star Jordan Seaton, still on the radar. Safeties coach Zac Spavital led the charge with Camacho following the spring evaluation period with the staff looking to load up on the offensive side of the ball through official visit season. “Coach Locks, he’s a great coach. He comes from Alabama, that’s one thing,” Camacho said about why Maryland won out at the time. “They play an Alabama offense. Overall, him and the coaching staff, the team, the environment is pretty good. It’s just somewhere I lean to more.” Samir Camacho is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by On3, sitting as the 263rd-best prospect in Texas. Related Links
