A roundup of news surrounding both Maryland football and men's basketball:
Jones invite...the former sixth-year Maryland wide receiver will suit up one more time before he heads to the NFL after accepting an invitation to the 2024 Hula Bowl, an event sponsored by Caribe Royale, set for Jan. 13 in Orlando, Florida. Jones will look to become the first Maryland receiver to be drafted since DJ Moore became a first-round pick back in 2018, and he ended his career as an integral piece on and off the field. Jones finished with 43 yards on three catches in the Music City Bowl win vs. Auburn as he recapped the emotions after his final game day with the Terps. "I was just looking at the stadium, talking to the guys, throwing with guys I wouldn't normally throw with, catching. Just trying to take it all in, enjoy it because you don't get many of these opportunities," he said.

Future Terp in action...while fans will have one more departing Terp in action at the college level, they'll also get a glimpse into a building piece in Maryland's signed 2024 class as St. Vincent Pallotti (MD) offensive tackle Ryan Howerton suits up for Team Ice in the Under Armour All-American game, set for 4 PM today on ESPN. Howerton has shined at times in one-on-ones, including winning consecutive reps against Texas A&M signee Dealyn Evans, in practice. Howerton, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound signee, is the lone Terp represented in Wednesday's game, but he isn't the only Terp in Orlando with former Maryland and Raven WR Torrey Smith making the trip in.

Young honored...Maryland has leaned on Jahmir Young to get them through the first half of the 2023-24 season, and after a historic performance against UCLA, the star point guard was named the Big Ten Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Young becomes the first Terp to receive the honor since Anthony Cowan Jr., who received the award three times during his senior year. Young averaged 30 points and nine rebounds in wins against Nicholls and UCLA, shooting over 56% from the field and 50% from three while making all but two of his 19 free-throw attempts. Young's last accolade adds to his storied two-year career in College Park after being named a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Big Ten team.
Young was the lone Terp to step up in Tuesday night's deflating loss vs. Purdue, turning in 26 points while shooting 52.1% from the field. The rest of the team? 27 points on 22.5% shooting.
Gametime set...Maryland men's basketball will look to pick up its first conference road win of the season when they head to Minneapolis to take on the Gophers, and on Monday, the conference has set tipoff for 5:30 PM on Sunday, Jan. 7. The Terps' next road game will air on the Big Ten Network as Maryland looks to pick up its 11th-consecutive win vs. the gophers. Last season's 81-46 win against Minnesota marked Maryland's only road win of the season as head coach Kevin Willard will look for improved success in 2024.
