Maryland landed a prospect out of Calvert Hall last month in three-star defensive end Daniel Owens and the staff is keeping tabs on another. 2023 6-foot-2 safety KP Price is beginning to see his recruitment evolve after West Virginia became the first school to offer back in June. Boston College and Syracuse have since followed up with their own verbal offers as Price is embracing the early attention.
“My first one, I didn’t even expect it coming but it felt great,” Price told Inside the Black and Gold. “I feel like this year I proved that even though I’m a corner, I come up and hit so most colleges probably think I can’t tackle but tackling is actually one of my biggest strengths.” Price attributes the weight room “and just defensive back training” to his ascension on the field that’s helped him become an established name on the recruiting trail. “I’m a great leader on the film, I lead the team well and I can play anywhere in the secondary. I would like to show more coverage because in my film, they don’t really throw my way so I’d like to show more pass breakups or interceptions.”
Price has drawn more interest including Penn State and Pittsburgh, but the Terps have gotten a chance to see him during a 7-on-7 earlier this summer and defensive line coach Brian Williams is keeping in contact. “They’ve just been talking to me, getting to know me. They’ve invited me to a couple of games but I haven’t been able to go, but I’ll try to go to the ones coming up.”
Syracuse is a school well-positioned early just as former Calvert Hall three-star Sean Tucker becomes the face of the Orange’s offense. “I have a great relationship with the coaches and the staff. I like Syracuse right now and they’re a top school for me.”
Price visited West Virginia this past weekend and soaked in the Mountaineers’ 38-31 win over Iowa State as the junior explains what he’ll look for in each school.
“Well, first I would say just talk with the coaches, build a relationship, and see where they want to use me even though I’m a junior. Still get a good relationship with them and just see for myself how it fits.”
Price is not yet rated but projects as a three-star prospect in the 84-86 range on 247Sports.
